Tamil Nadu Fisheries Development Corp reports Rs 802.76 crore net profit

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Fisheries Development Corporation has clocked a net profit of Rs 802.76 crore for the financial year 2016-17.

Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar handed over 30 per cent dividend amount of Rs 240.83 crore to Chief Minister K Palaniswami at the Secretariat today,an official release said.

Principal fisheries department secretary K Gopal and senior government officials were among those present on the occasion, the release added.

The company website said that fishery resources are categorised as marine, inland and brackish water resources in the State.

Total fish production in Tamil Nadu was estimated at 6.69 lakh tonnes.

Tamil Nadu ranks fourth in total fish production in the country. Export of Marine products was 79,336 metric tonnes in 2016-17, which earned foreign exchange of Rs 3,914.39 crore, it added.
