BANGALORE: If veteran cricketer Anil Kumble thought that after the bomb scare, Chinnaswamy Stadium would have fool-proof security, he was in for a shock. Kumble, who was attending a practice session at the stadium on Monday, had his cricket kit stolen.

The irony is that Kumble, named a special police officer of Bangalore by the Bangalore police, was struck by thieves at Chinnaswamy Stadium, so near Anil Kumble Circle.

Kumble, who filed a complaint with the Cubbon Park police said that he had placed his Royal Challengers bag along with the bags of other players at a  corner of the ground. When Kumble went to collect it after the session, it was gone.

“I lost everything including my iPhone and a wallet containing  Rs 3,000 in cash, several credit cards and debit cards, driving licence, membership cards of many clubs, frequent flyer card of Kingfisher and Jet airways, a few pair of clothes  and four gold chains . In addition, (there was) a gold coin which I used to toss during matches. The total worth of the lost property is estimated to be around Rs 45,000,” he said in the complaint.

The Cubbon Park police has taken some of the security staff at the stadium into custody. There were no CCTVs or other surveillance measures at the stadium and police suspect that it was an insider’s job.
