Fire destroys store in Yelahanka

The fire broke out in Poonam Hardware and Electricals at around 9.30 am and goods worth Rs 3 lakh were gutted.

BANGALORE: A fire broke out in a hardware store in Yelahanka New Town Main Road on Sunday morning.

According to officials of the fire department, the incident took place in Poonam Hardware and Electricals at around 9.30 am.

The store was opened at 9 am by its owner Shivalal, who along with a few staff was in the shop when the fire broke out. They ran out of the store and informed the fire brigade about the incident.

Officials said nine fire tenders rushed to the spot to doused the fire, which broke out in the ground floor and later spread to the first floor of the building.

The firemen took about one-and-half hours to doused the fire in which hardware materials such as PVC pipes, sanitary wares, paints and other goods worth Rs 3 lakh were gutted.

The fire department officials said an electric short circuit was the reason behind the incident.
