BANGALORE: For the rock music lovers in the city -- perhaps in many other parts of the country as well -- Sunday was a day that would linger for ever in their memory. A kind of frenzy swept the Palace Grounds as heavy metal band Metallica gave its first-ever live performance in India. The fans got a taste of Metallica’s performance on Sunday, braving rains that lashed the city for an hour. Chanting of  “Metallica” filled the air as the four-member American band enthralled the audience.

The performance, which was to be the second for Metallica in India, turned out to be its maiden show following the cancellation of its concert in Gurgaon on Friday. But, the effect of the band’s performance in the city was so powerful that the Friday’s fiasco was left behind.

There were no glitches in the band’s performance in Bangalore, as guitarist Kirk Hammett, drummer Lars Ulrich, lead vocalist Jamesh Hetfeild and bassist Robert Trujillo held the audience spellbound throughout.

To keep the large gathering engaged, two bands - Inner Spectrum from the city and Guillotine from New Delhi - did a opening act and glued the drenched fans.
