BANGALORE: Like every year, Bangaloreans thronged to MG Road and Brigade Road to ring in the New Year. But unlike every year, this year, the metro added glitz to the year-end celebrations.
Joining thousands of youngsters who thronged to M G Road and Brigade Road to say good bye to 2011 and to welcome 2012, were families, including children and senior citizens this year, who came to ride the metro.
Youngsters started reaching the colourfully lit streets by by 8 pm. Loud music and police announcements to control the crowds, rent the air on M G Road and Brigade Road.
Police had diverted vehicular traffic from 8 pm onwards on Saturday from M G Road, Brigade Road, Richmond Road, Residency Road and Commercial Street as thousands of revellers started reaching the area to ring in the New Year. The spirits soared as midnight approached and crackers lit up the sky as the clock struck 12. People were seen exchanging new year greetings by shaking hands and hugging each other.
