Mylarappa back in Bangalore University

Express News Service

Prof B C Mylarappa, who was shown the door after the Karnataka High Court quashed his appointment as the Bangalore University (BU) Registrar, has taken charge as the head of sociology department on Thursday. The HC quashed his appointment owing to a public litigation filed by P M Parameshwaramurthy and K M Manjunath, complaining that Mylarappa was not a suitable candidate for the post.

In November 2012, the court said the government had appointed Mylarappa without considering any of the adverse material against him, which included charges of plagiarism in his doctoral thesis and misappropriation of university funds.

Further, he was directed to discontinue his services as the registrar with effect from the date of the High Court order.

It may be recollected that K V Irniraya committee, which looked into plagiarism charges against one of Mylarappa’s PhD students, had concluded that Mylarappa himself indulged in plagiarism.
