Girls outshine boys in belling CAT

Girls have shown their mettle this time in Common Admission Test (CAT) 2012, the results of which were announced on Wednesday.

“I am overwhelmed with the results,” said Sowjanya Kannuri, a final year BE student of National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal, who scored 99.99 percentile in the test.

 “I am very excited. I am hoping to pursue finance at Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore (IIMB), and will opt for the institute as my parents reside there.”

Sowjanya is one of the four girls in the country who have scored 99.99 percentile in the test.

Tanima Chitranshi, who has also secured 99.99 percentile, said, “I went for coaching initially, but later it was mostly self-studying for me. I focussed on the quantitative bit.”

Ten students have scored 100 percentile and of them,  five are from final year batch from Indian Institutes of Technology.

“Overall 255 girls and 1,640 boys have scored more than 99 percentile and 59 students in the disabled category scored 75 or more percentile,” Prof SSS Kumar, convenor of CAT 2012 said.

Sumit Prakash Patil, a final year student at IIT Madras, has scored 100 percentile.

Siddarth Sharma, B Tech in Electrical Engineering, IIT-Kanpur, who has also secured 100 percentile, is interested in pursuing MBA in Finance. “This was my third attempt. I am hoping to join IIM Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Calcutta or Lucknow,” said Nishitha Reddy, assistant manager at a technology major who has secured 99.35 percentile.
