'Medical negligence' leads to woman's death

Express News Service

A 40-year-old woman died due to alleged negligence of doctors, who had left behind a piece of surgical cloth in her abdomen after a surgery, according to the woman’s relatives.

Pushpa, a resident of Manjunath Nagar, was suffering from severe stomachache for the past eight months.

She sought treatment at a private hospital in Rajajinagar where she was attended to by Dr Deepak Rohidekar, who diagnosed her with liver cancer, according to family members. When Pushpa’s problems persisted, she was referred to another doctor in New Delhi.

She was then immediately rushed to the Gangaram Hospital in Delhi, where she was attended to in Delhi by Dr Suresh Singhvi, who operated on her and sent her back, family members claimed.

Back home in Bangalore, Pushpa’s problem aggravated and she was again rushed to hospital.

This time, the team of doctors at the BGS Apollo Hospital immediately did an X-ray and found that a piece of surgical cloth still remained in her.

This negligence led to her death on Wednesday evening, claimed Pushpa’s relatives. The family is now contemplating legal action.
