Express News Service

Arishinakunte Gram Panchayat president Kemparaju, who was brutally attacked by a gang at Nelamangala allegedly on Saturday night, was shifted to an ICU in a private hospital.

The police said his condition is said to be stable.

The incident occurred at Vajarahalli when Kemparaju was at a pandal where a Ganesha idol had been installed.

He was attacked by a gang of armed men in full public view, the police said.

They added that three more people, including villagers, were severely injured in the attack.

The police have arrested the main accused and are investigating the case.

Kemparaju, who fired five rounds from his revolver in self defence, is a JD(S) party worker.

He  was said to be close to former Bangalore Rural Zilla Panchayat member Binnamangala Krishnappa who was killed in a shootout last year.

During the attack, Kemparaju’s associate Deepu and locals Kumar, T G Krishnappa and Hanumanthraju sustained injuries, the police said.

They were rushed to a private hospital, the police added.

Six Accused Arrested

A senior police officer said six men, who were involved in the attack, have been arrested and one of them is Kemparaju’s relative.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a property dispute is the motive for the attack and the accused gang had planned it well in advance.

The gang also had quarrelled with Kemparaju a couple of times over a real estate deal and he had an old rivalry with them during the last election, the police stated.
