Soon, you may be able to buy LPG cylinders from your neighbourhood kirana store or supermarket as Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) is planning to sell 5 kg LPG cylinders through such outlets.

The IOC had earlier introduced a scheme to sell LPG cylinders at its select fuel stations across the country. As more than 1,500 people have obtained the connections from fuel stations, IOC decided to extend its scheme to sell the small cylinders at market price through kirana stores and supermarkets to make them more easily available to its customers.

According to IOC, the initiative has been launched in 11 kirana stores in five cities —Bangalore, Chennai, Gorakhpur, Lucknow and Aligarh —to begin with. Buyers have to pay around `1,600 for the cylinder, regulator and other accessories while obtaining a new connection.

Customers have to pay the prevailing market price for refills.

IOC General Manager G Ramesh said, “In Bangalore, we have introduced this facility at the company outlet in KR Puram and we will extend it to kirana stores and other business establishments very soon.”
