Devanahalli police on Tuesday arrested a 54-year-old man and his wife for murdering his 17-year-old daughter over a property dispute at their house in Accupetta in Devanahalli.

Narayana Swamy, a farmer, and his third wife Lakshmi (34) are the accused. Police said the incident was reported on Friday.

Swamy’s daughter Vidyasri (from his first wife) was brutally beaten up by the accused before she was forced to consume poison. Neighbours heard her screaming and rushed her to a private hospital, where she succumbed on Tuesday.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Swamy owns three acres and Lakshmi wanted to register the entire property in the name of her four-year-old son. But Vidyasri and her brother Purushotham objected and demanded a share of their father’s property, prompting the accused to kill her.

Based on a complaint by Purushotham, Devanahalli police arrested the accused.
