BANGALORE: The police interrogation of Karthik Gowda, son of Railway Minister D V Sadananda Gowda, who has been accused of cheating and raping small-time Kannada actress Maitreya, was completed on Saturday.

Investigating Officer and ACP of J C Nagar sub-division, H M Omkaraiah, questioned Karthik for more than eight hours at R T Nagar police station on Saturday. Karthik arrived with his friends and advocate at 10.15 am and remained at the station until 6.05 pm.

While DCP (North) T R Suresh was also present during the interrogation, Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Alok Kumar visited the station and collected details about the probe from the IO.

While police sources said Karthik has given appropriate replies to just some questions about his relationship with Maitreya, DCP Suresh said Karthik had cooperated with the investigation and had given appropriate answers to all questions.

Sources said Karthik only repeated what he had said on Friday. He denied all allegations made against him and told police that the complaint was politically motivated and was filed to malign his father’s reputation.

Speech Test After Court Permission

The IO has decided to conduct a speech test on Karthik Gowda to ascertain if the male voice in the CD of telephone conversations released by Maitreya belongs to him or not. A police officer said they will discuss the issue with senior officers and file an affidavit before the court seeking permission to conduct a speech test.

DCP Suresh said, “Once we get permission from the court, he will be taken for a speech test.”
