THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Eat fresh and hot food to save yourself from problems of indigestion and food contamination and boost your immunity, say health experts.

For many people who have conditions like asthma, cold and flu, hot food can be the best medicine, says Dr R Deepti, clinical dietician, Bengaluru Medical College and Research Institute.

“Food that has tamarind or sour content should be consumed fresh as it can save us from complications like gastroenteritis,” says Dr Deepti.

Kiranmai Namburi, chief nutritionist, Fortis, Cunningham Road says, “Most studies show that many essential nutrients in fresh food products protect  one from cancer, high blood pressure, heart disease and Type 2 diabetes. Fresh meals and healthy eating habits also help one maintain  weight and reduce the effects of aging. It is necessary that whatever one consumes should be close to the body temperature to ensure one has a healthy metabolism. “Consuming fresh food detoxifies the system, helps digestion, purifies blood, stimulates the bowel movement, clears toxic deposits from the nervous system, helps kidney function, reduces chances of infection etc,” says Dr. Namburi. Though it is hard to cook on a rushed day, homely food is ideal for our metabolism.
