BENGALURU: The 5 am start for Metro service from Mantri Square Sampige Metro Station to Nagasandra Station on Tuesday, a first such attempt in the city, witnessed a decent rush with nearly 200 commuters travelling by the trains that ran in the first one hour.

“Almost 200 employees made use of this extended facility from Namma Metro at the 5 am. We expect news about the advanced timings to spread by word of mouth and expect many more passengers in the coming days,” said U A Vasant Rao, Chief Public Relations Officer, BMRCL. “The extension till 11 pm is likely to witness even more rush, particularly with the rains.”

The service has enthused employees too as this move would enhance productivity in their offices. “Some are even coming forward to buy Smart Cards for their staff members,” he added.

Metro trains run between 6 am and 10 pm in the city. The timings were changed from 5 am to 11 pm in the section covering Peenya, bowing to demand from Peenya Industries’ Association and employees in this stretch.
