Two Women Part of Sarang Team

BENGALURU: The much admired Sarang helicopter display team has another reason to be proud of. Two women are now part of the team, a rare feat in the Indian Air Force’s aerobatic teams.

Squadron Leader Deepika Misra, who joined the team as a pilot last July, now has Flight Lieutenant Sandeep Singh as a teammate. Sandeep joined the engineering division of Sarang recently.

Deepika was the first women IAF pilot to join a formation display team. She could join the team in 2010, when IAF changed its policies, allowing women helicopter pilots to join the Sarang team.

Flight Lt Sandeep joined the engineering division and is responsible for keeping the machines well maintained.

Both, though proud, say there’s more to achieve. Their dream? An all-women Sarang team.
