Making Tables Easier

One of the most challenging parts of mathematics is the tables. If we are good in tables, then mathematical operations become simple. Although many of us are confident up to the 10 times table, it gets challenging as we move to higher numbers. Let us look at some easy ways to memorise the tables for higher numbers.

Today I am going to teach you an easy method to multiply any two numbers between 11 and 20 in your mind. First we need to know the multiplication table up to 10 x 10. If you are ready with that then this method is easy.

Let us take an example. 12 x 14

Let us see another example:

18 x 17

Add 18 + 7 = 25

Multiply 25 x 10 = 250

Multiply 8 x 7 = 56

Add 250 + 56 = 306

Answer: 18 x 17 = 306

With practice we can start doing these in our mind.

13 x 15

13 + 5 = 18. 18 x 10 = 180

180 + (3 x 5) = 180 +15 = 195

Try one more.

16 x 14

16 + 4 = 20

 200 + (6 x 4) = 200 + 24 = 224

Easy? Now you can try these:

12 x 13, 13 x 14, 14 x 15

Practice with all possible numbers between 11 and 20 and make yourself confident in the tables.

Tip of the week: Be strong in tables and make math easy.
