MANDYA: Special land acquisition officer Bheema Nayak and his driver Mohammad were arrested by Mandya police, in Kalaburagi, on Sunday morning.

Nayak has been absconding, after his driver Ramesh KC committed suicide, alleging Nayak's role in converting close to Rs 100 crore of old denomination notes for former minister and mining baron Janardhan Reddy post demonetisation. Ramesh had also blamed Mohammad for his death, in his suicide note, which also levelled several other allegations.

Kalaburagi superintendent of police Shashikumar said that the arrest was made based on a tip-off at one of his relatives house in CIB Colony.

According to Mandya superintendent of police Sudheer Kumar Reddy, the case will be handed over to Crime Investigation of Department (CID). "The accused will be brought to Mandya during the day and will be produced before the local magistrate on Monday. Later, CID will take over the investigations," he said.
