'Bengaluru's vision group is a club of rich and famous'

BENGALURU: The Bengaluru Vision Group, also known as Bengaluru Blueprint Action Group, formed by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, has attracted criticism from civil society groups in the city.

Dubbing it as a ‘Club of Rich and Famous’, members of various organisations staged a protest in front of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike office on Friday.

The protesters urged the Chief Minister to scrap the group and demanded that he comply with the Constitution. “As per the 74th Amendment (Nagarpalika) Act, 1992, the Chief Minister must ensure that district/metropolitan planning committees are functional within three months of being  set up,” the protesters said. They also demanded to ensure that every planning committee produces its draft plans by the end of 2016, and the same is taken into consideration in 2017 Budget.

The protesters submitted a memorandum to Mayor Manjunath Reddy, who promised to communicate their demands to the Chief Minister. More than 100 people took part in the protest.
