BENGALURU: Police are yet to find any suitable leads in the case where MP of Bengaluru Rural D K Suresh was threatened over the phone. The caller who introduced himself as underworld don Ravi Poojary demanded a ransom and threatened to eliminate Suresh. But the investigating officials are finding it tough to trace the call as it was made using a satellite phone. A letter has been sent to the CID cyber cell to track the call, which came from a 14-digit number.
Sadashivanagar police who booked the case were busy planning security for Independence Day and KPCC vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s visit to the city for past few days. When contacted, police sources said they are yet to get any lead in the case.
Few hours after the I-T raids, a person called the landline at Suresh’s office. Since he was not there, the staff informed the same to the caller. The caller who spoke in English and Hindi.
“Assistant Arun Dev informed Suresh about it and the latter asked him to file a police complaint. It could be a hoax call but since Poojary’s name was used, the case has been taken seriously,” a police officer said.
A case under IPC sections 506 (criminal intimidation) and 387 (putting person in fear of death or of grievous hurt, in order to commit extortion) was registered in this connection. Neither D K Suresh nor his assistant Arun Dev commented as the investigation was on.
