BENGALURU: BBMP has received a lukewarm response to tenders it floated out to build waste-to-energy plants at waste segregation units.
Almost two weeks after the tenders were released, only one firm - Indium - has made a bid to construct a small-scale plant at Doddabidarakallu plant. Earlier, four firms had expressed interest in constructing these plants but the projects were shelved due to various reasons, including protests by locals.
Joint Commissioner, Solid Waste Management, Sarfaraz Khan said other firms had directly approached the palike as the firms did not have experience in building such plants. So these firms were unsure of making official bids. He added that after waiting for some time BBMP will go ahead and award the contracts to these firms.
Tenders had been floated for two large plants at Kannahalli and Mavallipura, and for smaller plants at Subbarayanapalya, Dodabidurukallu and Chikkanagamangala. He said, “We will wait and if there are no bidders, we will award the tender to other firms who have approached us. We will take a call as we cannot go on endlessly waiting and floating tenders.”
