BENGALURU: From this academic year, marks cards for undergraduate and post-graduate courses at Bangalore University will be water- and tear-proof. BU came up with these reforms following complaints of poor quality of marks cards and increasing cases of fabrication of marks cards.

According to information from university officials, the newly designed marks cards will have upgraded security features. The first set of upgraded marks cards have already been given to print.
Security features include high resolution security border, gold hologram, use of security ink to print the number on marks cards, water mark, micro lane printing and hidden image. At present, BU marks cards having photograph and water mark.

The paper used will be of 205 GSM to ensure that marks cards can’t be torn. However, the new marks cards will come at a hefty price for the university. According to BU officials, each marks card will cost `36.5. It was earlier just Rs 1.94. Every semester, the university prints at least 9 lakh marks cards, which means BU will have to shell out `3 crore per semester for marks cards, when earlier it was `15 lakh.

Results via SMS

Following complaints of delay in announcement of results, the university has decided to send results via SMS from the coming semester exams that will start in October. To avail this facility, students have to register their active mobile number while paying the exam fee.
