BENGALURU: The High Court on Monday issued notice to authorities in response to a PIL against the construction of an Indira canteen by uprooting trees in a piece of land that belongs to the BDA.
Hearing the petition filed by Geetha Misra and other residents of Rajajinagar 3rd Block, the division bench of Chief Justice Subhro Kamal Mukherjee and Justice P S Dinesh Kumar issued notice to the Commissioner and tree officer, BBMP, BDA commissioner and managing director of KPTCL.

Advocate G R Mohan told the court that the petitioners had submitted a representation to BBMP in 2013 to make use of the said land to the extent of 6.1 acres for the benefit of the residents of Rajajinagar 3rd Block as it had remained unused by the BDA. However, on June 21, 2017, instead of developing the land into a park, officials tried to demolish the compound wall to build an Indira Canteen.

Construction of indoor stadium challenged
Residents Welfare Association of Indiranagar 1st Stage has filed a PIL challenging a tender notification issued for the construction of an indoor stadium in Indiranagar.  The tender notification on the stadium to be built at a cost of `5.08 crore was issued on June 29. The petitioners contended that the land proposed for the stadium is a playground. They said that the state government and BBMP did not act on their complaints against commercialisation. The division bench issued notices to the state and BBMP on Monday.
