Bengaluru floods again: Woman dies after touching UPS

The woman identified as Meenamma, a resident of RMS Layout in KR Puram went to switch off the UPS and was electrocuted.

BENGALURU: Rains have claimed yet another life in Bengaluru with a 60-year-old woman electrocuted in KR Puram. Many lakes have breached their banks in the city, flooding localities around the rim.

The woman has been identified as Meenamma, a resident of RMS Layout in KR Puram. When rain water entered her house, she went to switch off the UPS and was electrocuted. She died on the spot.

Many lakes including the Hosakerehalli, Somapura in Banashankari, Devasandra in K R Puram and Binnamangala overflowed their brims. The Sheegehalli lake frothed in K R Puram.

In other parts of the city, compound walls collapsed in some places such as Chandra Layout,  BTM Layout, RPC Layout, RR Nagar, Maruthi Layout and others.

The rain began during late on Tuesday and lasted for a few hours. The maximum rainfall (139 mm) was reported from Hemmigepura in Bengaluru South. Other parts of the city which received very heavy rainfall (exceeding 124.5 mm) included Kengeri, Bagalakunte and parts of K R Puram.
