BENGALURU: Police on Thursday nabbed a man who had killed his sister-in-law with a machete at Ayyappa Nagar in KR Puram on Wednesday. Vinayaka Reddy, the accused, had allegedly murdered his brother’s wife Sumati (29) on Wednesday. Before the police caught him, Reddy consumed pesticide in a bid to commit suicide as he feared arrest.

But, the police managed to prevent him from doing so and got him admitted to a hospital where he is being treated. Police said, the accused has confessed to Sumati’s murder, and said he killed her after she refused to continue an affair with him.

He was having an affair with Sumati for several years and had also separated from his wife because of her. Also, Reddy had given `4 lakh as loan to his brother Mohan (Sumati’s husband), and used that as leverage to coerce Sumati to carry on their illicit relationship. He would often visit Sumati.

However, she gradually began to change her mind. On Wednesday, Reddy sought sexual favours from her. When she rejected, he attacked her with a machete. Neighbours, who saw him running away from home, informed police.
