BENGALURU: Two men were charred to death after their speeding car collided with a private bus on Hosur Road near Chandapura in the early hours on Sunday. Both vehicles caught fire due to the impact of the collision and two people who were inside the car were burnt alive.
However, 19 passengers in the bus had a miraculous escape. Fire and Emergency personnel doused the fire after a half-hour operation.The deceased are identified as Zabiullah P (24), a manager in a real estate company and his friend Ismail Sharif (28). Both are residents of Hosur.
A police officer from Surya City police station said the incident occurred around 4.40am near Hennagar Gate on the busy Highway NH-7. The private bus was coming to the city while the Hyundai i20 car was heading towards Tamil Nadu. Zabiulla, who was driving the car recklessly, lost control and crashed into the road median before crossing over to hit the bus which was coming from the opposite direction. As the car was crushed under the bus, it caught fire which also spread to the bus within a few minutes. The driver of the car and his friend were burnt alive inside since the doors were jammed due to the impact of the collision. The bus driver V Kannan has given a statement before the police and further investigations are on. Zabiullah and Sharif were classmates since their college days and Sharif was working as a driver in a private company. The duo had come to Bengaluru to meet their friends.
Hemasundar, an eye-witness told TNIE, “I was waiting for a bus to reach Chennai and was standing at the bus stop when the incident took place. First, I noticed thick smoke emanating from the car and called the fire service. The fire broke out soon and both vehicles were completely burnt before the fire service personnel could arrive.”
