BENGALURU: The police have arrested the murderer of 24-year-old Kriti Kumari, who was found dead with her throat slit on the third floor of a paying guest accommodation in VR Layout, Koramangala in the city on Tuesday night.
The arrested accused has been identified as Abhishek Sharma. He was arrested around 12.40 pm on Friday and brought to Bengaluru on Saturday.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Abhishek was in a relationship with Kriti’s roommate, who recently separated from him. Abhishek believed Kumari was behind his girlfriend’s separation from him.
Kriti advised friend to cut ties with accused
Accordingly, he hatched a plan and allegedly stabbed Kumari to death in her PG room. Abhishek lived with his girlfriend in the city. While his girlfriend worked, he was jobless. He used to torture her for money, said a source.
When Abhishek’s girlfriend revealed this, her friend and colleague Kumari advised her to get rid of him. Abhishek’s girlfriend paid heed to this and ended her relationship with him. She became Kumari’s roommate on July 20, the source said.
On the fateful day, Abhishek went to the PG facility at VR Layout in Koramangala in search of his ex-girlfriend. When he learnt that she was yet to return from her office, he waited there. Meanwhile, seeing Kumari entering her room, Abhishek knocked on the door.
When Kumari opened the door, he entered the room and dragged her out. He attacked Kumari with a knife, blaming her for his girlfriend’s separation from him. He slit Kumari’s throat and stabbed her to death, the source said.
In the CCTV footage, which has gone viral, Abhishek is seen knocking on the door and entering Kumari’s room. He is also seen dragging her out and stabbing her after slitting her throat. Some inmates of the PG facility are seen making phone calls and rushing towards Kumari.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Sarah Fathima said Abhishek, a BSc graduate, was produced before a city court which remanded him in police custody on Saturday.
