As Marvel fans get their fill of Spider-Man’s heroics in theatres, this event will give fans a chance to step into the neighbourhood hero’s shoes along with others like Captain America and Wolverine. The Versus Festival: Marvel Tokon Edition, the launch of Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, as business in-charge, Daijoubu Esports, Arjun Kamath says, will have the energy of a party. “We’re bringing in sub-cultures like anime and a Japanese aesthetic; people can cosplay Marvel characters and listen to DJs.”
Arcade machines that young B’lureans are perhaps only familiar with from anime have been imported from Japan to play the new game, explains Kamath, saying, “Even older generations may have only played on Arcade machines a few times. They allow the general public to easily try the game.” He adds, “The game has been highly anticipated because everyone knows these characters but also because fighting games are a niche within the gaming community.” Participants can also play Avatar Legends and other fighting games released this year, on traditional monitors.
The cosplay contest is Marvel-themed and judged not just on the look but how one embodies a character shares Kamath. “It’s also about a 360-degree perspective on how they have come in. While some may come with a SpiderMan mask, others might take the effort to dress as Black Widow and embody the character.” With drinks and DJs spinning tracks, the party will get down to music that stays in theme too, says Kamath, “It’ll be video-game inspired music, like chiptunes. The idea is still to make people dance.”
