BENGALURU: A GPS-based tracking pilot project for 138 auto-tippers used for door-to-door waste collection was launched at the Bengaluru Central City Corporation’s Shanthinagar Division with corporate social responsibility support from Intel Technology India Pvt Ltd, in collaboration with Let’s Be The Change (LBTC) and technology partner Brain Above Pvt Ltd.
The tracking system will help further enhance the efficiency of the door-to-door waste collection system. It will enable effective monitoring of whether vehicles are operating on their designated routes and whether waste collection activities are being carried out properly, an official said.
Through the centralised command centre of BSWML, the movement and functioning of waste collection vehicles can be monitored in real time. This will provide accurate information on vehicle movement and enable officials to take prompt action whenever necessary. Besides, continuous GPS tracking of waste collection vehicles will help strengthen transparency, accountability and efficiency in the service delivery system.
“The system will also assist officials in identifying lapses in waste collection and taking appropriate corrective action,” the official said.
BCCC CLEANS 21 PUBLIC TOILETS, REMOVES 2K KG OF WASTE
As part of the third phase of the special cleanliness campaign being undertaken by the Bengaluru Central City Corporation (BCCC) to secure a better position in the Swachh Survekshan 2025-26 rankings, 21 public toilets were cleaned and over 2,000 kg of waste was removed on August 19. “During the cleanliness drive, plastic waste, paper, food waste, water bottles, dry leaves and solid waste accumulated around public toilets were collected and removed.
A total of 2,209 kg of waste was cleared during the operation and sent to the units concerned for appropriate disposal,” a release added. Areas surrounding toilets and were cleaned and accumulated waste was removed.
