Congress asks Sofia Firdous to resign from Barabati-Cuttack Assembly seat

Cuttack city Congress president Santayan Mishra said a delegation of the party from Cuttack will meet Speaker Surama Padhy and submit a memorandum demanding to cancel Sofia’s Assembly membership.

BHUBANESWAR: The Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) on Thursday asked party MLA from Barabati-Cuttack Assembly constituency Sofia Firdous to resign from the seat and contest elections again.

The move came after Firdous attended the launching ceremony of Odisha Janata Congress and addressed the gathering. She was suspended from the party for cross-voting in the Rajya Sabha polls held on March 13.

Chairman of the OPCC social media team Biswajit Mohanty said the Cuttack District Congress Committee has adopted a censure motion against the MLA after she attended the launch ceremony of the new political party by her father Mohammed Moquim.
