BHUBANESWAR: In a jolt to the BJD, former Balasore MP Rabindra Kumar Jena on Tuesday resigned from the primary membership of the party.

In a letter to BJD chief Naveen Patnaik, the former president of Balasore district BJD, said he has worked to strengthen the party organisation for several years and served the people of the district as a disciplined member of the party. “But for some personal reasons and circumstances, I have decided to sever all links with the party,” Jena said.

The former MP has requested the BJD president to relieve him from all responsibilities of the party. Though Jena has not opened up about his future course of action, it is being speculated that he is likely to join the BJP soon.

Sources said the former MP’s resignation from the party may have an impact on the Rajya Sabha elections as his wife Subasini Jena is the sitting BJD MLA from Basta constituency in Balasore district.
