BHUBANESWAR: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Monday imposed a Rs 20,000 fine on a private agency for defacing public walls having murals with posters at Baramunda underpass in the city.
Swinging to action after a photograph was published by the The New Indian Express (TNIE) on the day, municipal commissioner Chanchal Rana asked BMC’s enforcement team ‘Shine’ to take action against those who defaced the wall with mural works.
The photo shared on social media on the day drew wide public criticism, with netizens raising question on civic body’s alleged silence in such matters and seeking strong action against those spoiling the beauty of the capital city.
“They should be caught and made to pay for what they have caused,” wrote a user on ‘X’, while another user urged BMC to take an exemplary action to ensure that none will try to play with the beauty of the city.
Rana, who took note of the development, later shared that the agency behind the act of defacing the murals was traced by the Shine team of BMC and fined rs 20,000. The posters were also removed, Rana said.
