CHENNAI: Chief Minister M Karunanidhi’s wife Dayalu Ammal on Friday donated Rs 5 lakh towards the Sri Lankan Tamils Relief Fund set up by the State Government.

She handed over the cheque to her husband at their Gopalapuram residence. Later, at the Secretariat, Udhayanidhi Stalin, son of the Local Administration Minister, donated money on behalf of Red Giant Movies, as well as employees of the DMK mouthpiece Murasoli.

The total contributions till Friday evening stood at Rs 3.88 crore.

Among those who called on the Chief Minister to donate funds on Friday were Vijayan (on behalf of the Film Employees Federation of South India — Rs 10 lakh), G Viswanathan, chancellor, IT University, Vellore (Rs 10 lakh), S V Balasubramanian, Bannari Amman Sugars Limited (Rs 10 lakh), Dr P Mannar Jawahar, vice chancellor, Anna University (Rs 10 lakh), S P Murugesan, producer of Uyilin Osai (Rs 5 lakh), CPM state secretary N Varadharajan (Rs 1 lakh) and R M Veerappan, MGR Kazhagam (Rs 1 lakh).
