CHENNAI: More than 100 students of the PMR Institute of Technology were taken into police custody on Wednesday evening following their refusal to give up their strike at the Directorate of Technical Education (DOTE) campus.
Anna University Vice- Chancellor Mannar Jawahar had asked the students to give up their protest and attend classes from February 16.
The students staged a protest in front of Anna University and held on to their demand of transfer to colleges that had proper facilities.
A meeting between the management and the students organised by Anna University failed to break the deadlock.
The Vice-Chancellor suggested that a period of three months time could be given to the management to improve the infrastructure in the college. But the students say that they do not trust the management.
The students have expressed their lack of faith on the inquiry committee that was formed under the aegis of Anna University.
The five-member inquiry committee was set up with representatives from Anna University, DOTE, All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and two members from the college management.
Anna University has maintained that it will act only after committee submits its report.
Meanwhile, the students said they would continue with their strike.
