CHENNAI: At least 2,700 children in the age group of 7 to 12 participated in the Ninth International Abacus and Mental Arithmetic Competition — ‘Complan SIP Prodigy 2009,’ here on Saturday.

Children from Sri Lanka, UAE, South Africa, Malaysia and Philippines competed alongside their Indian counterparts in a test of arithmetic skills and mental ability.

This is the first time SIP Academy India Private Limited is conducting the event in the city.

“It is an opportunity to perform before people of my age and their parents, hailing from different parts of the world. I am not worried about the results. I like working with abacus as this has helped me gain speed in doing basic arithmetic ” said Ankit Verma, a participant.
