CHENNAI: The Perambur flyover — inaugurated in March this year — has come as a big relief for thousands of motorists in north Chennai since the onset of the north-east monsoon in October.

Till last year, traffic policemen at the Ambedkar College Road near Pulianthope had a tough time regulating the vehicular traffic from Purasaiwalkam to the north-western parts like Moolakadai and Madhavaram, due to severe waterlogging at the Ganeshapuram subway near the Vyasarpadi Jiva railway station — a key entry/exit way for vehicles plying between Madhavaram and Purasawalkam.

When the construction of the Perambur flyover was on, motorists were forced to use either the Vyasarpadi subway (from Basin Bridge) or the ICF overbridge via Ayanavaram to reach north-west Chennai, as vehicles were restricted from entering the waterlogged Ganeshapuram subway.

But, the inauguration of the Perambur flyover changed all that. Motorists and passengers of MTC buses now find travel along this stretch hassle-free with the ease in traffic congestion.

The flyover has come as a boon to motorists from localities like Kolathur, Sembium, Peravallur, Periyar Nagar, Jawahar Nagar, Moolakadai, Jamalia, Ayanavaram and Erukanchery. Buses bound for KKD Nagar, Kodungaiyur and Vyasarpadi from Parry’s Corner were diverted via the new bridge.
