Poet Soundara Kailasam is no more

CHENNAI: Soundara Kailasam, mother-in-law of Union Home Minister P Chidambaram, died here on October 16 after a prolonged illness. She was 83. She is survived by a son and three daughter

CHENNAI: Soundara Kailasam, mother-in-law of Union Home Minister P Chidambaram, died here on October 16 after a prolonged illness. She was 83.

She is survived by a son and three daughters, including Nalini Chidambaram, an advocate of Madras High Court and wife of Chidambaram.

A well-known Tamil scholar, Soundara was the wife of Supreme Court Judge late P S Kailasam.

Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and Deputy Chief Minister M K Stalin, visited her residence and paid homage to Soundara by placing a wreath.

Condoling her death, Karunanidhi recalled that she had rendered several brilliant poems in various literary meets chaired by him.

He said the late poet treated Tamil and spirituality as her two eyes.

Soundara had served as a member of the Advisory Panel of the All India Radio, Chennai, the Hindu Religious Endowments and the Film Censor Board.
