CHENNAI: The 82nd birth anniversary of poet and lyricist Pattukottai
Kalyana Sundaram (PKS) was celebrated at the Russian Centre of Science and Culture here on Friday. Film writer and poet Kalaimamani Aaroor Dass was honoured with the Makkal Kavignar award for this year in recognition of his outstanding service to the film industry.
The Makkal Kavignar Award is presented every year on PKS's birthday, to pay respect to the doyens of the industry and to recognise their immense contribution.
Aaroor Dass gave the Tamil film industry such classic movies as Paasamalar and has over a thousand scripts to his credit.
Accepting the award from Justice T N Vallinayagam and president of Kambankazhagam Rm Veerappan, Dass thanked the industry veterans who
had helped him through the journey.
The event was organised jointly by the All India Tamil Writers
Association, Indo-Russian Film Club, Indo-Russian Women's Association and Makkal Kavignar Trust. It also celebrated the 40th anniversary of the Russian Centre of Arts and Science in Chennai.
