Express News Service

Numero uno lyricist and poet Vairamuthu released his latest novel Moondram Ulaga Por on the day that he turned 59. This story was carried as a series in a Tamil weekly, but has been compiled and published only now. The problems of global warming and the issues relating to agriculture and the effects of globalisation are central themes, in this book. The first copy of the book was received by eminent writer, Jnanapith awardee Jayakanthan from DMK Chief M Karunanithi. In his special address, Jayakanthan said ‘’In order to save agriculture, and future generations, Vairamuthu has brought out this great work. Some give hope while others cause disbelief, but we survive between the two. Likewise, between hope and disbelief lies the third world war, around which this book has been written.”

Kamal Haasan said, ‘’It is not merely a novel but a work of research too. The language Vairamuthu has used in this book is one of the things that attracted me to it. In cinema, directors will tell us the problem and they leave to us to solve it in our own way. Here, the writer poses the problem and also the solution.” In his acceptance speech, Vairamuthu said, ‘Tamil Nadu is the land of human values. As we strive to save those values and to sow the hope in future generations, I brought out this book. There is a scene in my book, where a man fights against his enemies and loses his left hand. During the fight, he was so intent that he did not realise that he had lost his arm and even picked it up to use as a weapon against his enemies by his left hand which amputated. This was based on a true incident which happened in my native village, years ago, in a caste clash. Yes, the chapters contained in this book are told by me and written by my assistant.”

“The earth, the water, the air, the fire and  space..these five elements are the main thing for a being to survive. These things are condensed and provided here in this book,” said DMK chief M Karunanidhi here.
