CHENNAI: Chief Controller of Research and Development, DRDO, New Delhi, Dr V Bhujanga Rao has exhorted students to come up with innovative ideas, which, he said, should be generated not just by researchers. Speaking at the ‘Innovation Day’ celebrations on the SRM University campus in suburban Kattankulathur on Wednesday, Dr Rao said, “Nowadays, students are getting involved in many government defence projects. Ideas may emerge from an individual at any point of time. But the execution matters a lot as that leads to innovation.”

He stated with pride that the present generation had created a revolution through the Internet.

“Discoveries are not made without effort. We need patience and passion to achieve the goal, besides commitment and plan.” Rao said.

SRM University Vice-Chancellor Dr M Ponnavaiko said from this year, the varsity would institute two awards for innovations, one for students and the other for research scholars. Twenty students of the university came up with presentations of their innovative projects such as electricity generation through sound and antennas, 3D model of the SRM University, construction blocks made up of coconut husk and radical engines with automobile applications.
