Chiaroscuro, an exhibition of art works by the students of MFA from the Government College of Fine Arts, dwells on the nature and complexities of human beings. Chiaroscuro is an Italian word for art that uses light and dark as contrast. And the term succinctly puts the painting exhibition in perspective.
The displayed work by 17 students pursuing their master’s degree in the institute, which has produced stalwarts in the world of arts, touches upon understated moments and thoughts.
The art show is actually a journey for the audience, from the reinterpretation of the dancing Shiva-the-Nataraja to the ever-glorious maternal instincts.
But nature has always been a bottomless pit for ideas. The torrid tides, the white surf of cascading waves, lush landscapes replete with vibrant colours and the pristine beauty of the path-driven falls – the eternal and timeless muse of artists presents itself yet again as a fascinating subject.
The arduous journey of life and the people you meet on the trip, solitude and its impact on the human mind are a revelation, using abstract techniques mish-mashed with realism.
Femininity and the grace of womanhood and the tender feel of a child’s body once again find reference, but as metaphors, in the exhibition. Human emotions like vanity and ego make their way through its abstract representations in the form of a flower.
Every frame of work in the exhibition offers a key to a whole new view on existing explanations. They are a world that opens up gradually as you read through every stroke, gradient and contrast.
