Three held for grabbing land worth Rs 4 crore

Express News Service

The Central Crime Branch on Sunday arrested three persons on charges of grabbing property in Choolaimedu using forged documents. The property was worth about Rs 4 crore and belonged to a senior neurosurgeon.

Dr Velmurugendran, who works with a private hospital, had owned the approximately 4,920 sqft property in Choolaimedu since 1974 and had appointed Arul as caretaker, according to the police. However, in 2009, Arul and his sons — Immanuel and Michael — grabbed the property and had it registered at the sub-registrar’s office in Kodambakkam with the help of Anbu Kumar. The surgeon was threatened when he asked Arul to return his property.

Dr Velmurugendran lodged a complaint with the City Police Commissioner. Police arrested Immanuel, Michael and Kumar and restored the property to its owner.
