CHENNAI: Efficycle’14, an intercollegiate design competition for undergraduate students initiated by SAE Northern India Section, was jointly organised by International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT) and Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) at Rajalakshmi Institute of Technology in the city on June 28 and 29.
Entering into the 5th season of the event, CV Raman, chairman, SAENIS, and executive director, Maruti Suzuki India said, “Young engineers of this millennium are more creative and innovative, however, their energy and thoughts need to be properly channelised. Events like Efficycle will provide them a framework to be eco-friendly designers, energy conscious and sportier.”
In order to view the design concept and the overall project envisaged by the individual teams, a virtual qualifier round was organised, in which 122 teams from various engineering colleges participated.
These teams were judged on the basis of planning, design methodology, utility of the vehicle, competency and capability to fabricate the vehicle for real world application.
UD Bhangale, convenor of Efficycle’14 and senior general manager, International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT) said, “Efficycle event provides an opportunity to engineering students for innovation, application of concepts learnt and to generate consciousness towards environment friendly mobility solution”.
Jitendra Malhotra, co-convener, Efficycle’14 and AGM Maruti Suzuki India said, “Students have to tackle real world engineering problems and work in multidisciplinary teams, Efficycle event help them build this skill and groom their inherent talent.”
The qualifying teams from virtual rounds will be invited to bring their vehicles to UIET, Chandigarh in October 2014 and compete against each other, fulfilling the go-green spirit of Efficycle.
