AMET University inks MoU with Dermot Services

CHENNAI: AMET University (Academy of Maritime Education & Training) Chennai in collaboration with J Ray Mc Dermott Engineering services Ltd., (USA), has launched a postgraduate diploma in Safety Engineering in Offshore Design.

The MoU for the course was signed at AMET University and Mc Dermott Engineering in the presence of president of AMET University Dr J Ramachandran on July 4.

Keith G Huggins, director, Engineering of J Ray Mc Dermott Engineering services Private Ltd., and  Col prof G Thiruvasagam, vice-chancellor, AMET University, signed the MoU to jointly conduct the course.

The course will be conducted on the AMET University premises, Kanathur, with the participation of Mc Dermott Eng Services.  The duration of the course will be one year and  students will be sent to Mc Dermott yard in Indonesia/Dubai for yard  training and design practicals will be done in AMET/ Mc Dermott design office in Chennai,  which is scheduled to commence by the end of this month.  Cdr AS Perumal, professor and HoD, Naval Architecture and Offshore Engineering will be the course coordinator and may be contacted for further details (cdr.asperumal@gmail.com) or vist www.ametuniv.ac.in.

On completion of the course,  the graduates will be placed in various offshore design companies world  over. Engineering graduates from mechanical, civil, EEE (M), EEE, metallurgy, instrumentation,  petroleum, chemical, marine etc, branches are eligible for the course.
