From His Own Pocket

Express News Service

CHENNAI: The parking contractor at Thiruvanmiyur railway station has installed a CCTV camera system worth `35,000 to enhance safety of vehicles parked, on the first time in the entire MRTS stretch.

The owner of the contract, A V Krishnayya, has set up two CCTVs, a monitor and UPS with money from his own pocket, to keep track of the dark parking lot in the basement, after there were complaints of vehicle theft in the past. “The local police advised us to install a CCTV as this isn’t a safe area,” an employee of the contractor said. Passengers parking their vehicles were impressed at the security feature and said that more people would be encouraged to park their vehicles. “The parking lot in Kasturba Nagar station is preferred as the fee is `5 compared to `10 here, but we expect more commuters to shift here,” the employee said.
