CHENNAI: Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Monday granted a financial assistance of Rs 50,000 each to eight police personnel and three village assistants who have suffered injuries while trying to contain casteist violence at Seshasamudram village in Villupuram district on independence day.
In a statement here, she said law and order issue cropped up between two sections of people regarding car festival and violent incidents followed. Police personnel and employees from Revenue Department who tried to check the violence suffered injuries.
Sankararapuram Special Sub Inspector Kulandaivelu, Grade I constables Balamurugan, Rajanbabu and Saravanan, Villupuram district Armed Police constables Ranjithkumar, Parameswara Padmanaban, Yuvaraj and Saravanan, Village Assistants of Valayampatti,  Manjaputhur and Kallerikuppam - Selvam, Balusamy and Ganesan respectively suffered injuries, an official release here said.
