Reviving Theatre Through Kids

Ever seen a play performed by 600 students, almost all of them aged between three and 10? Well, at the launch of St Britto’s Theatre Academy at Kamarajar Arangam, one could see young kids showcasing their acting skills to a jam-packed hall. The theatre academy was launched by actor Vishal in the presence of Vimala Britto, managing director, St Britto’s Theatre Academy.

Addressing the media on the occasion, actor Vishal said, “I strongly feel that this attempt by Vimala Britto should go to the Guinness Book of World Records. It is great to see young kids performing with precision.” Congratulating the kids who had been a part of the first play Raja Perigai, which focuses on the 300 years history of Pre Independent India and the importance of unity and brotherhood, Vishal added, “Over the course of this long play, I was trying to find out if even a single child made an error. But no, it was impeccably rendered and staged wonderfully.” He said that such activities increase the students with their levels of concentration.

Another group of students staged a play titled ‘Wings of Love’, which focused on spreading love to all in the world. A total of seven shows were staged within a span of three days both in Tamil and English.Vimala, said, “It was a whole lot of hard work that went behind and I had struggled for an entire year so as to see my young kids perform on stage.”
