Justice Rocks, an unsponsored copy left platform organised a concert themed “Un-making India” for young musicians, stand up comedians and artistes to highlight the social and environmental injustices in the city recently at SPACES, Besant Nagar. The concerts main highlights were performances by Kodaikanal Won’t fame Sofia Ashraf, rocking Tamil band Kurangan, Vishnu Ramprasad’s Vishnu R Collective and a stand up comedy act by Shaam.

Among these established artists were new performers M S Krsna (17) and Nikhil Nair (16) who took the crowd by surprise as they performed flawlessly to soft rock and acoustic hard rock music. The crowd cheered and encouraged the duo throughout its performance. “Vishnu Ramprasad told me about Justice Rocks. We practised for a month for this and we are extremely happy to have been part of this event. I think at this age, it is the right kind of influence on us,” said Krsna.

The eleventh graders from Abacus Montessori School, Perungudi, were an instant hit among the audience and were appreciated for performing songs that were original composition. “The original composition I wrote was about strained friendships. The music was influenced by my recent training in jazz,” said Krsna.

Krsna is from a family of musicians while Nikhil takes after his father, an architect, who plays the guitar. Similar tastes in music and a good chemistry while working together brought the duo together. “I play the drums and learn to play the guitar on my own. I learnt under a tutor for six months,” said Nikhil.

Sofia was bowled over by their performance and was all praises for the duo. “I never expected a school band to perform so well. It is really nice to see how youngsters are exposed to more good things now. I am overwhelmed by the turn out and mind blown by the kind of support we have received,” she said.

“Our families have always supported and encouraged us to do what we love,” said Nikhil and Krsna. Both ambitious and serious about music, their dream is to take up music full time and pursue it as a full-time career.
