CHENNAI: Hospital to Hold Free Speech and Hearing Screening Camp
Sri Ramachandra Hospital will be conducting a free speech and Hearing Screening Camp on October 9 and 10 at the outpatient block (G-Block) of the hospital between 9 am and 1 pm. Individuals with delayed speech development due to autism, hearing impairment, mental retardation, attention deficit hyperactive disorder, learning disability, unclear speech, stammering, voice problems, loss of speech after stroke, difficulty in swallowing, hearing loss from birth or due to ageing, trauma or infection can participate in the camp. Kids Display Creativity at World Veg Day Celebrations
The World Veg Council recently celebrated World Veg Day at the Red Cross Society at Egmore. B Valarmathi, minister for Social Welfare and Nutritious Noon Meal, R J Anandmul Challani, president, SMK Jain Guru Seva Samiti, Chennai and Suresh Reddy Chirla, director of Hanu Reddy Realty India attended the inaugural function. It was followed by a day-long event of competition for school children from KG level to Class 12 on drawing, painting, creativity, poster designing and fancy dress. The students especially of the younger group from KG to middle standards evinced a lot of enthusiasm and exhibited creative skill sets.
Books Launched in Memory of APJ Abdul Kalam
Seek Foundation, an NGO, organised a book release function in remembrance of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam at Hotel Fortune recently. The books Kaalathai Vendra Klam (Tamil) and Dreamer and Doer (English) edited by Fr Xavier Alphonse SJ and published by St Britto’s Group of Institutions were released by S Kannapan, director of School Education, Tamil Nadu and K Srinivasan, regional officer, CBSE, Chennai region respectively. The first copies of the books were gifted to APJMJ Sheikh Saleem, grandson of former president Kalam and director of APJ Abdul Kalam Mission of Life Gallery. Vimala Britto, founder of Seek Foundations said the books stand as an inspiration of Kalam visit to St Britto’s Group of Institutions July, 2008, for an interactive session with the students. “The books make his words alive, and continue to inspire students to become dreamers and achievers,” a release quoted her saying. The proceeds from the sale of the books will go to the Seek Foundations which will fund Stem cell research and development, empowerment of villages through education and development of small scale industries.
