Stir for Exam Centres

Express News Service

CHENNAI: Over 200 doctors staged a demonstration in front of the Chennai Collectorate on Saturday seeking more examination centres in Chennai for the All India Post Graduate Medical Examination (AIPGMEE) on January 11.

With over 6,000 doctors from Tamil Nadu scheduled to take the exam and only four examination centres in Chennai, a mere 500 candidates are being allowed to take the examination in the Chennai centres with the remaining candidates being allotted centres in northern regions - Nagpur, Mumbai and Kolkata. The protesting doctors demanded the state government’s intervention and find a solution for this.

Speaking to Express, Dr G R Ravidranath, State general secretary, Doctors’ Association for Social Equality, said that the AIPGMEE is usually conducted, category-wise, on several dates. However, now, they are planning to conduct the examination on a single day for all categories.

The AIPGMEE, which is conducted by the National Board of Examination (NBE), was originally scheduled for December 2 but with the city being affected by floods, the examination was postponed for candidates in Tamil Nadu alone.
