CHENNAI: Racing and bike stunt claimed the life of two teenagers after their vehicle skided off on the outer ring-road near Poonamalee on Sunday afternoon.

Police said the duo, A Harikaran (17), a class XII student and his friend D Balakrishnan (19), a first year ITI student, both from Thiruverkadu, were attempting bike stunts along with two other friends when the mishap occurred.

After the bike skidded off, both were thrown on the road and suffered severe head injuries as they did not wear helmets. Both of them didn't have a driving license, police added.

Their friends rushed them to a nearby private hospital where they were declared brought dead.

Police said the boys, all in their teenage and early 20s, were on their way to Chembarambakkam Lake, to have a bath on Sunday afternoon when they met with the tragic end.

According to police, Balakrishnan, was riding the two-wheeler and Harikaran was pillion riding. As the duo  reached Velappanchavadi, Balakrishnan lost balance while taking a turn and both fell on the pedestrian pathway.

A case has been registered under section 304 (Causing death by negligence) and 279 (Rash driving or riding on a public way.)

The stretch is a favourite haunt for youngsters engaged in racing. On August 16, six college students involved in bike stunts on Outer Ring Road were arrested and three bikes were seized. Similarly, on July 22, ten persons were arrested on the charge of racing on the Madhavaram - Perungalathur bypass road. Two auto rickshaws and 22 motor bikes were seized.

Meanwhile, police have also increased patrolling in the stretch especially during weekends and at nights known as the peak time for bike racing.
